Midwest Employers Casualty (MEC), a member of W. R. Berkley Corporation, has long been known for its excess workers’ compensation product offerings. As MEC’s business needs evolved, Paul Roderick, manager, claims operations, recognized an opportunity to strengthen how complex program information was organized, validated, and connected across internal systems.
Roderick stepped forward to lead a cross-functional effort that reached beyond his formal claims operations responsibilities. The work required collaboration across multiple disciplines and a practical understanding of how information moves through the organization, from policy administration and underwriting processes to claims operations and reporting needs.

He helped create tools and processes that made information easier to review, exceptions easier to identify, and cross-functional workflows easier to manage.
His efforts included developing an exception dashboard to help identify data inconsistencies earlier in the process, supporting a more structured approach to data intake, advancing automated integration, and formalizing technical documentation so important knowledge could be maintained and shared more effectively.
The result was a stronger internal framework for managing complex program information. Paul’s leadership helped reduce manual effort, improve consistency across teams, and create more sustainable controls for the future. His work also contributed to MEC’s operational risk management framework by enhancing visibility, consistency, and governance across complex data processes.
