Liberty Mutual Insurance appointed Defne Turkes president and managing director of Liberty International Insurance (LII), the international division of Global Risk Solutions (GRS), effective July 1, 2026.
“Defne brings a formidable combination of skills and deep international insurance expertise,” said GRS President Matthew Moore. “She is an exceptional leader, with proven experience delivering operational platforms across complex, multi-jurisdictional environments, alongside commercial experience running a multi-country business.”
Turkes will lead strategic growth across commercial insurance internationally and retail markets in Asia, reporting directly to Moore. She has served as LII chief operating officer since 2024, and first joined Liberty Mutual in 2006 as chief financial officer in Turkey. She subsequently held various senior leadership positions across Asia, ultimately serving as president of Liberty’s Asia retail businesses.
Turkes succeeds Phil Hobbs, who recently transitioned to the role of president of Underwriting at GRS. &
